Sun Sugar, CarbonShack’s newest line of textiles, lighting, and wallpaper, celebrates the miracle of chloroplasts, whose very essence contains the story of creation itself. Somewhere between one and two billion years ago, a chance encounter between a cyanobacterium cell and a eukaryotic cell resulted in the creation of a new class of cells, called chloroplasts. These miraculous new cells could convert sunlight to energy and could absorb carbon to produce oxygen, paving the way for the emergence of all manner of plant life. Without chloroplasts there would be no oxygen-based life on earth. None. The beauty that is all plants, food and animals, all the life we see around us, exists to a large degree thanks to the magic of chloroplasts.
