Sun Sugar - Mid Century Green

We are celebrating the miracle of chloroplasts, or “sun sugar”, in our new textile, lighting, and clothing lines because the story of chloroplasts is the story of creation itself.

This story begins between one and two billion years ago when a cyanobacterium cell was engulfed by a eukaryotic cell.

The miracle, the magic, of this chance encounter between two cells created a new class of cells, called chloroplasts.

These new cells could convert sunlight to energy, absorb carbon to produce oxygen to produce plants. Without chloroplasts there would be no oxygen-based life on earth. None. The beauty that is all plants, food and animals, all the life we see around us, could not exist without the miracle of chloroplasts.
