New House of Old Wood

Upcycling salvageable wood members, while paying homage to the history of the site, helps keep this new home structure firmly rooted in the past; an open floor plan and sliding doors that blend interior and exterior make it decidedly of them moment. The kitchen countertop and dining table are all fabricated of milled live-edge planks from a cedar tree that was felled to make way for a nearby house addition, while the coffee table and end table are crafted of discarded tree stumps that the homeowners inherited with the property. The structure sits lightly on the ground, elevated for minimal impact, with drought-tolerant landscaping and water-catching cisterns helping to minimize the building's carbon footprint.
