ntouched since its original construction, the façade and north-facing rooms of the house were reconfigured and updated with new thermally efficient steel windows and doors, to better take advantage of the natural light and garden vistas.

A stainless-steel and glass staircase, installed in the renovated front courtyard, provides direct access to the home's main 2nd level floor. The ipe-clad roof deck's sweeping views are now shaded with an undulating canopy that calls to mind the nearby surf, and is accessed by a newly-installed elevator. A little-used ground-floor guest bedroom was transformed into a highly functional Media Room/Guest Room that offers a multiplicity of distinct uses: media/screening room, reading nook, office desk space, art gallery/library and bedroom (the latter made possible by an ingenious pivot-and-drop wall bed unit, concealed within a narrow shelving cabinet and desk). The Living Room, previously interrupted by a bulky and never-used fireplace, has been opened up to grant increased prominence and attention to a stunning array of modern master artworks, from sculptures by Donald Judd and Franz West, to prints and paintings by David Hockney, John McCracken, Ed Ruscha and others. Furnishings provide a variety of comfortable perches for admiring the collection, socializing and entertainment, while a quartzite-clad custom cabinet, separating the Living and Dining Rooms, also functions as a serving buffet, artbook storage unit and art display plinth. The rooftop deck, with its undulating wood-clad canopy and glass-enclosed penthouse gallery, references the renovated entry while providing a new source of shade and shelter that expands the living spaces evermore outwards. This unique contemporary home has now been transformed and upgraded to at last reflect architecturally the breadth and depth of the stunning array of Modern Art contained within its freshly reconfigured walls.
